Station History
3rd Feb 1964 | An experiment on the eastbound District line platform started with train doors opening on both sides, so passengers swapping to British Rail services didn't have to use the stairs to cross to the opposite platform. |
30th Sep 1961 | The revamped station was formally opened on this day. |
Circa Jan 1956 | The station booking hall was completely rebuilt between 1959 and 1961 to designs by architect H. H. Powell with Project architect John Ward of British Railways Eastern Region Architect's Department. |
Circa Jan 1889 | A substantial rebuilding of the station added four platforms, a new ticket office, and a cattle pen. |
13th Apr 1854 | The original station, with just two platforms, opened on 13 April 1854 |
