Description

The Kennel Club in partnership with the Mary Evans Picture Library are proud to host the very first exhibition in the world on the photography of the famous Thomas Fall.

The exhibition showcases photographic works and archive ephemera from all four Thomas Falls: the original Thomas Fall (b1833-1900), Edward Hitchings Parker (Thomas Fall number two), Barbara Burrows (Thomas Fall number three) and Mary Evans Picture Library (who by acquiring the vast collection became Thomas Fall number four).

Thomas Fall is a name which was and still is synonymous with the highest quality pedigree and champion dog photographs for over a century. The Thomas Fall collection represents key photographs from when the first Thomas Fall set up his photography studio in 1875 at 9 Baker Street, London through to 1990 when the late Barbara Burrows (nee Bourn) retired from taking photographs. It is the single, largest and most historical dog photograph archive in the world and represents the significance of the progression of British pedigree dogs through photographic records.

Promoting the Pedigree through Photography: Thomas Fall is the first exhibition of its kind to showcase a selection photographs and artefacts from the famous Thomas Fall archive, with a narrative tracing the development of the business through its proprietors – the ‘four Thomas Falls’ within the exhibition space of the Kennel Club Art Gallery.
