Why matter matters: can the built environment better respond to material innovation?

This event has finished Took place on: Thursday, 23rd Mar 2017

 Free

Examine the properties of graphene, self-healing concrete and fibre-reinforced concrete. Experts will discuss the development of these materials, how they can be incorporated in the built environment and what makes them so unique.

Smart materials have the potential to make our cities more sustainable and adaptable. Some materials have properties which autonomously change in response to the environment... thereby changing our environment.

Gain insight on cities of the future and see how smart materials can transform the built environment.

Speakers include:

- Stephen Hodge, research associate at the Cambridge Graphene Centre and the Engineering Department of Cambridge University

- Anna Ploszajski, materials scientist and engineer at UCL Chemistry, and freelance features writer for The Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining

- Jessica Wade, research associate at Faculty of Natural Sciences, Department of Physics, Imperial College London

- Matthew Wells, ‎director at Techniker

- Chair: Lewis Blackwell, curator of SuperMaterial

This talk is part of the SuperMaterial event series, curated by The Built Environment Trust. The event programme is kindly supported by Trimo.
