Southwark Story - The Wrong Side of the River: Part 3: London Bridge, Industrial Bankside and a new Cathedral

Join us for a series of evening talks led by Southwark cathedral historian Guy Rowston in which we will uncover the stories of Southwark and the cathedral at its heart.

In week three, we will find out about the New London Bridge and the restoration of the church. The impact of the railway and the increase of slums will be uncovered. The arrival of Southwark’s first cathedral and the development of the parish church into the Southwark’s second cathedral will be explained. We will learn about the industries, hop trade and Borough Market situated along the south bank and the impact of two world wars. To finish we will explore the regeneration of the area.
