Space has emerged as a new field of endeavour for architects and industrial designers in the last forty years. It is a design field that will grow in scope and significance in the century ahead as humans establish a permanent presence beyond Earth.
In this talk, David Nixon shows for the first time in the UK some of his past space projects carried out in the USA and Europe. He discusses the challenges of designing for an alien environment and envisions the opportunities that space will offer designers in the future.
David Nixon was the first British architect to specialise in the space field. He was among the first handful of architects to work on the American space programme in the mid-1980s and is author of a book on the development history of the International Space Station.
