Historic England has recently listed 41 public sculptures, many of them in London, erected between 1945 and 1985 to bring our public spaces back to life after the Second World War.
An exhibition early in 2016 highlighted their vulnerability: a large number have been lost, sold, stolen, damaged, neglected or moved.
Dr Bowdler is Historic England’s Director of Listing.
