Forget mulled wine, warm up with some sake this December at Asia House. To celebrate the start of the festive season, we are hosting a sake evening featuring a talk and tasting.
Pronounced sah-ke, sake is a Japanese alcoholic drink made from fermented rice. It dates back over 2000 years to the Yayoi period in 300 BC, when Japan first developed wet rice cultivation.
Depending on its brand and type, sake has an average alcoholic volume of between 12-16 per cent. It comes in various forms which include sparkling and unfiltered.
This evening event at Asia House will shed light on one of the world’s most fascinating drinks.
Satomi Dosseur, Founder and Director, Enshu Limited and Director of SSI (Sake Service Institute), will give a brief presentation about the origin of sake, the procedure of sake making and other key facts about Japan’s national beverage.
Then you’ll get to sample the spirit itself. Bottles of sake will also be available to buy on the evening – a great Christmas gift idea for sake lovers!
