Social mobility is one of the key ingredients of a fair, equal and progressive society. Amongst the many factors which shape how much social mobility occurs in a society, education is a major one. This lecture explores the role of the school governor and its impact on student social mobility.
Michael Cross is the William Plowden Fellow in Social Policy for 2016 at the LSE.
Nicholas Deakin has worked as a civil servant and in local government and chaired national and local voluntary bodies. He was a founding member of the Runnymede Trust. From 1980 to 1998 he was Professor of Social Policy and Administration at the University of Birmingham. He is currently Vice Chair of the Baring Foundation.
