Universally regarded as a milestone in the history of television drama, 'I, Claudius' turns forty this Autumn.
In order to mark the occasion, Egyptologist and Classicist John J Johnston (UCL Institute of Archaeology) looks back on the production of this darkly comic serial in a heavily-illustrated lecture, which will consider aspects of script, performance, and design, employed to imbue the reigns of the first Roman emperors with startling life.
