Boots on the Ground

This event has finished Took place on: Wednesday, 2nd Nov 2016

 Free

Every year since the Second World War, Britain has had ‘boots on the ground’. Our army is central to our national identity and has shaped – and been shaped – by everything from the Cold War to the Good Friday Agreement to the EU Referendum. With the rise of terrorism and new kinds of warfare, this situation is unlikely to change. One man who has been at the centre of the battle ground – both literally and metaphorically - for the best part of fifty years is General the Lord Dannatt, who shares his insights with us.

The Henry Jackson Society are pleased to invited you to an event with Lord Dannatt, who will discuss the extraordinary Falklands conflict, the long-standing Northern Ireland situation, Britain’s relationship with NATO and, of course, the Middle East from the point of view of someone with first-hand experience and expertise. He will also discuss the role politicians play in conflicts and whether the army has been successfully deployed and sufficiently supported.

General the Lord Dannatt GCB CBE MC DL served in the army from 1969 – 2009. He was awarded the Military Cross at the age of twenty-two. He went on to hold the positions of Commander-in-Chief, Lord Command and Chief of the General Staff: the professional head of the British Army. After his retirement he became Constable of the Tower of London from 2009 – 2016.

Boots on the Ground  is available now. We will also be selling copies on the day at the reduced rate of £20.
