Find out about life in Clerkenwell in London in the middle of the nineteenth century as we follow the progress of Oliver Twist from his meeting with the Artful Dodger in Angel. We'll walk the route taken by the crowd carrying Oliver Twist from his apprehension after the theft of Mr Brownlow’s handkerchief to the Magistrate’s Court and we'll visit the site of Fagin’s Den and hear about the terrible slums, the “rookeries”, and how they were swept away by road and rail development. Join me to see the location of Dickens’ first marital home and some of the many alleys and streets which feature in his novels.
Start: Angel tube; Finish: Chancery Lane tube
