Free FreeAccording to recent ONS figures, the 65 and over age group is projected to grow twice as fast as the working age population over the next 10 years. By 2035, the number of over 60s in London is expected to increase to nearly 2 million. Yet London is still lagging far behind most of the rest of Europe in the variety and quality of housing provision for those later in life, meaning that many older people are weighing up whether they want to and can stay in the capital later in life.
What can both central and local government and housing providers do to expand the options of what housing options are available to those later in life, both for those able and affluent but also for those who are less so? Are we designing the right kind of homes to appeal to those over 65?
