Who's The Man? How is he controlling us?

This guided walk round the Strand, Fleet Street and St Paul's surveys London's shifting landscape of power. From monarchs to management, we'll investigate the capital's users and abusers of authority. We'll consider their methods of intimidating, manipulating and controlling us. And we'll hear about the successes and failures of those who have sought to bring the mighty to account.

What to expect The Power Walk draws on English constitutional history, law, politics, economics and architecture to investigate the dynamics of power in central London. Tour goers will:

explore the area from Somerset House to St Paul's Cathedral, passing along the Strand and Fleet Street and nipping down curious side-streets and back-alleys

visit the Royal Courts of Justice and see a court of law in action

hear stories about power struggles that have played out in the streets that we pass

take in the buildings, monuments and street furniture designed to intimidate, influence and control us

consider the balance of power in London today and strategies for challenging those with authority and influence.

A Power Walk is led by Rosie Oliver. Hear Rosie introduce the walk in this 2 minute podcast.

Meet: Somerset House riverside terrace, by the war memorial (see joining map). The walk ends by St Paul's Cathedral.

Suitable for: adults and young people aged 16 and over. The walk involves going up and down steps.

Maximum group size: 16.
