Join us for a special evening lecture exploring the remarkable objects in the RCP's ‘Scholar, courtier, magician: the lost library of John Dee’ exhibition, with talks from Wellcome Library and Science Museum experts William Schupbach and Katie Dabin.
Programme:
5pm: arrival, registration and exhibition viewing; talks begin at 6.30pm
6.30pm: Crystal gazing: Dee’s immortal instruments - Katie Dabin, curator of clinical & research medicine at the Science Museum, provides a close encounter with the captivating objects that assisted Dee’s pursuit of knowledge – his crystal and sharkskin obsidian mirror
6.50pm: The darker side of Dee - William Schupbach, librarian of the iconographic collections at the Wellcome Library, explores the story of Henry Gillard Glindoni’s extraordinary representation of John Dee performing an experiment before Queen Elizabeth I within a circle of skulls. William has published on a wide range of paintings, prints and photographs from the historical collections of Henry S Wellcome
7.10pm: Q&A followed by exhibition viewing
8pm: event closes
