Behind the scenes at the Epping Ongar Railway

Come along and find out what goes on to keep Essex's longest Heritage Railway running. From restoring the carriages to maintaining the track, there are numerous departments that each focus on a different area of the Railway's ongoing restoration and maintenance projects.

We're always looking for new volunteers; and this weekend-long event provides a great opportunity to find out more about the roles you could be involved with.

At North Weald, there will be a vintage bus on the station forecourt, visits to the usually off-limits engine shed, and static and operational locomotives on show, all with crews on-hand to provide information about the roles and projects involved with each. There will even be Driver-for-a-Fiver trips with one of our 03 shunters out of Platform 3!

Meanwhile at Ongar, there will be chances to tour the full signal box, along with members of the Carriage & Wagon Department working on and talking about the various challenges they face with our rolling stock. Stationmasters and Porters will also be giving an insight into their platform-based roles.

Steam & Diesel-hauled trains will be operating our standard timetable. Normal fares apply for this weekend.
