Gravitational waves: What next?

This event has finished Took place on: Tuesday, 5th Jul 2016

Join Martin Hendry and Stuart Reid to explore how the discovery of gravitational waves is opening up an entire window into the cosmos.

February 2016 saw the first direct detection of gravitational waves, produced by two black holes colliding far away in space. This ground-breaking discovery confirms the existence of ripples in the fabric of space-time, as predicted 100 years ago by Albert Einstein’s theory.

In this Café Scientifique event, we explore the remarkable technology that helped us to detect gravitational waves, and how their discovery can help us eavesdrop on the most violent events in the cosmos.
