Hidden Streets and Secret Alleys

This event has finished Took place on: Saturday, 25th Jun 2016

 Free

Walk into a bygone world and visit places which have changed little over the past 200 years.  Discover the secret labyrinth of narrow alleys and hidden courtyards of London and hear about the incredible history which has unfolded on those very streets.

Step away from the busy, noisy streets and venture into the world of secret London, where we'll look at such highlights as:

The Devil's own alley

Venture beneath the railway lines of Fenchurch Street

See some of the locations which inspired Dickens' novel 'A Christmas Carol'

A death defying, world-renowned local legendary goose

The entrance to the Leaky Cauldron from Harry Potter and The Philospher's Stone

Walk the street which was reputed to have influenced individuals to claim that 'London's streets were paved with gold'.

The original patron saint of England

Find out the origin of the saying 'It was so quiet, you could hear a pin drop'.

See the Medieval church whose Saint is said to have caused the creation of the nursery rhyme 'London Bridge is Falling Down'

Walk the fine line between Cock Lane, Dirty Street and Gropeconte Alley.

See one of the best preserved 700 year old Medieval church towers in the City.

Find out the location of hidden and secret crypts dating to the 13th Centuries.

All of this is guaranteed, on this walk through the dark, often narrow, secret corners of London which literally drip with history.

This walk may not be suitable for those with those who suffer from claustrophobia due to some of the enclosed spaces we visit.
