The Homosexual Necrophiliac Duck Opera

This event has finished Took place on: Friday, 24th Jun 2016

Join us for the Homosexual Necrophiliac Duck Opera plus new mini-opera It’s Not What He Says, It’s How Deep He Goes.

In 1995 Kees Moeliker, curator of the Natural History Museum Rotterdam, saw the first case of homosexual necrophilia in the mallard duck. Six years later he published a paper on the event, which earned him the 2003 Ig Nobel prize.

This dramatic, musical performance plays out the events that unfolded at the time of Moeliker’s discovery.

The composer’s brand new piece - inspired by the paper Dominance and the Evolution of Sexual Dimorphism in Human Voice Pitch by Puts, Gaulin and Verdolini - will follow.

Set to music by Daniel Gillingwater in an avant-garde pseudo-operatic, quasi-musical theatre/soul/funk style, this is a musical experience not to be missed!

This event is for those aged over 18.
