Walking Tour - Restoration London, The Phoenix From The Fire

Departing from the church All Hallows by the Tower you will be taken on a journey through Restoration London.

It's the 1660's and King Charles II has been restored to the throne, plague, political unrest and the devastating Great Fire of 1666 cast London into an uncertain future. Discover the ancient streets and explore their exciting past, and how our modern city was shaped from such a disaster. Learn the story of the Great Fire and how the City and its people responded, and how it still impacts us today.

You'll be taking in the fine architecture that still survives today, understanding the artistic symbolism and getting to know the characters that built them; tour features some of Christopher Wren's finest architectural work and contempory accounts of this eventful time in the City's history.

Discover some of the ancient trade guilds and social institutions and their roles within Restoration London. Learn the origins and history of the streets of modern London, and which were the most important and why.

This walking tour will depart promptly at 1pm from ouside the tower of All Hallows by the Tower church (closest Tube station is Tower Hill). Please arrive early and allow for weekend disruptions on the London Underground. We will walk across the City and finish the tour on the south side of St. Paul's Cathedral. The tour will last appox. 2 hours and end within the vicinity of resturants, pubs and a short walk from the Tate Modern.
