As per tradition, Hanwell Carnival will kick off with a procession from Hanwell Community Centre to Elthorne Park, where there will be music, food, fairground rides and much more.
The procession will leave the community centre in Westcott Crescent at 11am.
The carnival – believed to be the oldest in London – is run by the community for the community. This year’s theme is Historic Hanwell, so there will be plenty of material for the procession participants to draw inspiration from.
Last year, some 30,000 flocked to a sun-drenched Elthorne Park to listen to bands on the music stage and in the acoustic tent, buy handmade goodies in the craft tent and delicious delicacies in the artisan food tent, and watch dancers and sports team perform on the community stage. Numerous local charities will be setting up their stalls to draw attention to their good work.
There’s also a fairground, petting farm, pony rides and the old favourite, the dog show.
