Join me, Alan Tucker, to discover the unknown history of a small piece of London on this guided walk which starts and finishes conveniently close to Mile End underground station.
This is not the history of fine country houses and the 1%. It is the history of a working part of London, and especially, it's people. There were some very talented people working around here; philanthropists, silversmiths and trade union leaders. The walk also features stories of gangsters, horticulturalists, a mad inventor and a crazed tyrannical monarch.
Not much of the past survives on the streets here, but there are some clues. I'll be bringing some of my research papers out with me - copies of court documents and old maps to show you that I'm not telling pork pies!
My photo here looks so bland that you'd never guess what was built here in 1911, and what it became in 1953!
