Steam Festival at the Epping Ongar Railway

A weekend of intensive steam services on our challenging gradients, with impressive visiting engines in the form of BR 9F No. 92214 which visits courtesy of the Great Central Railway.

Usually, the loco sports BR Black, but is currently in BR Green, which was only ever previously applied to 'Evening Star'.

Accompanying the big beast will be Standard 4MT tank engine No. 80072 (picture: Matthew Collier / UK Heritage Hub), visiting from the Llangollen Railway. Also in steam will be our Summer resident N2 No.1744 - courtesy of the Gresley Society - and Hudswell Clarke No.20 'Jennifer' - also courtesy of the Llangollen Railway.

An intensive timetable will operate all weekend, providing plenty of opportunities to ride behind these locomotives. For those who would like to learn more about the steam engines appearing at the gala, and our other resident engines, our new Event Guide will be available.

For fans of our little industrial tank engine, 'Isabel', you'll be able to pick up signed copies of the recently-published 'Isabel Finds a Home', written by Robert Gillman, one of our own volunteers! Robert will be in attendance on Sunday 12, and you can purchase copies from him on the day, or our shops all weekend.

Visiting -- the easiest way is to take the tube to Epping, then take their vintage bus shuttle service to the steam railway.
