Some said he was Labour's great lost leader. A shooting star through the Attlee era, war hero John Freeman was one of the most charismatic of the 1945 general election intake, a young minister at the age of 31 and then the ‘third man’ alongside Nye Bevan and Harold Wilson in the high-profile resignations of 1951.
Subsequently a pioneering TV interviewer, Editor of the New Statesman, a senior diplomat, a businessman and an academic, Freeman died at the end of 2014 two months before his 100th birthday - the last surviving MP from the 1945 and 1950 Parliaments.
Freeman's Labour career will be discussed by a unique panel including the author of his new biography and the only remaining Labour MP to have known him personally and worked with him.
