On Friday 13 May the Bank of England Museum will be opening its doors to visitors for this rare opportunity for an evening visit, as part of the nationwide Museums at Night festival.

Banknotes experts will be conducting short talks giving background information about current Bank of England notes as well as explaining how to use the advanced design and security features to identify genuine notes.

In September 2016, the Bank will be launching the new £5 note, featuring Sir Winston Churchill, the first Bank of England note to be printed on polymer. Visitors can find out more about the move to polymer and take a look at mock-up banknotes.

Members of the Banks Bullion team will be on hand to answer questions about gold. Visitors can try their hand at lifting a genuine bar of gold, which is more than 99.5% pure. Weighing an impressive 13 kilos, it will take many people by surprise!

Throughout the evening the Museum’s team will be conducting special talks giving visitors a unique insight into some of the most intriguing and fascinating objects of its treasured collection.

All the Museum displays will also be available including the latest exhibition Capturing the City: Photography at the Bank of England, showcasing the Bank’s photography collection and providing a fascinating record of the Bank, its buildings and staff since the Victorian era.
