Launch of a major new report published by the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism.

Join us for the launch of a major new report on British journalists in the digital age, published by the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism and authored by Dr Neil Thurman, Dr Alessio Cornia, and Dr Jessica Kunert. The event will include an overview of the report, followed by discussion from an expert panel chaired by Dr Rasmus Kleis Nielsen (Director of Research, Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism).

The report is based on the first major survey of British journalists for several years. It provides up-to-date analysis on diversity in UK journalism and journalists' working routines and employment conditions. It also reports and examines journalists' views on their role in society, changes in the profession, influences on their work, and ethics and standards.

The report contains numerous findings on this wide range of topics, including the extent to which journalists work across multiple media, the most common subject areas journalists' specialise in, how much journalists trust politicians and other institutions (including the news media itself), the extent to which UK journalists’ views on ethics match those of their professional codes of practice, and how important journalists feel external influences like pressure groups, PR, and politicians are on their work.

Ian Hargreaves, former Director of BBC News and Current Affairs and fomer Editor of the Independent, says in his foreword the report 'illuminates essential ground.'
