Celebrate the history and future of the spectacle that is the transit of Mercury across the Sun.
In 1629 Johannes Kepler published a notice with the title ‘Of Rare Marvels’ for the world’s community of astronomers. It presented a remarkable prediction; that Mercury and Venus would cross the face of the Sun in 1631. The next transit of Mercury will be in May this year.
Join Royal Observatory astronomer Tom Kerss to celebrate the history and future of our obsession with this spectacle, and find out what we’ve learnt about the smallest planet in our solar system.
