In the Middle Ages, medicine was largely about a good death and a hope of salvation but from the sixteenth century doctors began to understand that illnesses could be cured scientifically. As the medical profession developed it required a London headquarters. This lecture follows the architectural journey of the medical profession in the capital from a closed shop to a nationalised democratic institution.
