Ours or theirs? Who owns London?

This event has finished Took place on: Wednesday, 27th Jan 2016

 Free

More and more of the London we consider public – the streets, the spaces, the services – is becoming private. Is that a problem – or a brave new world?

Panelists include:

Anna Minton is a writer and journalist and Reader in Architecture at the University of East London (UEL). Anna’s book Ground Controlemerged from a series of agenda setting reports, two of which were published by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and the other by the think tank Demos. The first focused on gated communities and ghettoes in the US, questioning to what extent these trends are emerging in the UK.

John Rogers has worked on numerous projects with comedian Russell Brand and directed documentaries including The London Perambulator and Make Your Own Damn Art: the World of Bob and Roberta Smith. He is the author of This Other London: Adventures in the Overlooked City.

Rab Harling is a London-based contemporary artist who specialises in experimental, large-format photography and sculptural installations. His practice investigates the social occupation of space, from the urban landscape to domestic interiors, focusing on how people construct a sense of place, and how the design of built environments reflect and actively produce particular social configurations and political ideologies.
