Monthly vigil at the Cross Bones Graveyard

What's on in London >> January >> 23rd January >> Monthly vigil at the Cross Bones Graveyard

This event has finished Took place on: Wednesday, 23rd Jan 2013

On Redcross Way, a tranquil back-street running parallel to Borough High Street, there's a plot of land surrounded by London Underground hoardings. There's a big rusty iron gate adorned with ivy, ribbons, flowers, feathers, jewellery and other curious totems - and with a bronze plaque bearing the epitaph: 'R.I.P. The Outcast Dead'.

This is Cross Bones, a pauper's burial ground with a legend going back to medieval times.

Vigils have been held on the 23rd of every month since June 2004. They are inclusive, secular events, open 'to all faiths and none'.

Please bring a flower, a ribbon, a totem, a memento to tie to the shrine at the gates.
