A talk on the music hall comedic singer.
Music hall comedic singer, Fred Barnes (1885-1938), was an LGBTQ+ icon and the most interesting person you have never heard of. The press called him the male Vesta Tilley, the courts deemed him “a menace to His Majesty's fighting forces” but his hit song ‘The Black Sheep of the Family’ describes him best.
Hear about a life containing stardom, fabulous fashion, sailors, addiction, suicide and a pet monkey. A talk with oral histories, images and exerts from letters and press interviews.
