Migration - Challenge of Our Generation

This event has finished Took place on: Thursday, 3rd Dec 2015

 Free

How we respond to the current refugee and migration challenge will shape how we are viewed when the history of our time is written. How we manage to integrate the migrants will determine our economic future. Peter Sutherland has asked for a global approach to dealing with the challenge. Come and hear him develop his views and proposals for solutions.

Peter Sutherland (@PDSutherlandUN) has been the UN Special Representative for International Migration since 2006. With the Secretary-General, he proposed the creation of the now active State-led Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD).

In addition to serving as the primary link between the United Nations and the Global Forum process, he advises the Secretary-General on issues related to international migration and development, and leads initiatives to foster cooperation on issues such as protecting migrants affected by crises and ensuring that migration is part of the post-2015 UN development agenda.

Peter is a former Director General of the WTO, European Commissioner, Chairman of Goldman Sachs International, and Chairman of the LSE Court of Governors.

Erik Berglof (@ErikBerglof) is Director of the Institute of Global Affairs (IGA) at LSE.

The Institute of Global Affairs (IGA) (@LSEIGA) creates a dedicated space for research, policy engagement and teaching across multiple disciplines to pioneer locally-rooted responses to global challenges.

This event is free and open to all with no ticket or pre-registration required. Entry is on a first come, first served basis. For any queries email [email protected]
