The Greenwich Historical Society presents an illustrated reminiscence by Julian Watson.

On April 1st 1965 The London Borough of Greenwich was created from the former boroughs of Greenwich and Woolwich. Among the new members of staff employed the same month was J.Watson, aged 21, appointed to the post of library assistant on a salary of £610 per annum. fresh from a small farm in a remote West Sussex hamlet, Julian observed the anxieties, stresses, humour and prejudices as staff from two proud authorities began to work together in the new super authority.
