The Humanity Of Lawyers

A barrister is a performer on a public stage, clearly identifiable in wig and gown, yet certain aspects remain hidden from view. This event will explore barristers’ role in representing human life in the courts and the significance of their own character and beliefs. Lawyers – and particularly barristers – are sometimes characterised as money-grabbing and ruthless. This event will reveal another side of life at the Bar, including the ethical dilemmas they face and their views on anachronistic court etiquette and dress.

Through a small exhibition of library materials in the lobby of the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies and an evening discussion in the Parliament Chamber at Inner Temple, a public audience will be given an insight into lawyerly life and duties and an opportunity to engage with barristers, and the scholars who study them. Come along! This event is part of the School of Advanced Study event series 'Hidden & Revealed'.

As our Festival events are free, not everyone who asks for tickets comes to our events. To make sure we have a full house we allocate more tickets than there are seats. We do our best to get the numbers right, but unfortunately we occasionally have to disappoint people. Admission is on a first come, first served basis, so please arrive in good time for the start of the event.
