A History and Celebration of Swimming the River Thames
Join author Caitlin Davies for an illustrated talk on the history of Thames swimming at Richmond. From Charles Dickens’ river dips in the 1830s and the formation of the Richmond Swimming Club in 1883, to endurance swimmers in the 1980s and Thames lovers today. Discover how Thames swimming was once the norm, whether bathing kings or splashing school children, why we abandoned the river and the reasons behind the current revival in ‘wild swimming.’
The event takes place at the Riverside Room in the Old Town Hall.
