Our second Being Human festival of the humanities kicks off in earnest with an evening of activities in the University of London’s iconic Senate House. Our Being Human launch party will provide a taster of Being Human activities across the country – featuring everything from a panel of experts exploring the humanities, a ‘Carnival of Lost Emotions’, a pop-up screen printing workshop, ‘armchair tours’ of some of the hidden spaces of Senate House and a chance to play on a ‘hackable’ musical instrument. Come and join us to toast the start of the festival!
At Being Human, we believe that the humanities matter. But what do those working in other fields think? Do scientists, surgeons, economists and psychologists need the humanities, too? From religion to experimental physics, surgery to economics, we will hear from those who need the humanities to inform their work. Panellists include experimental physicist and science writer Dame Athene Donald, clergyman and journalist Reverend Dr Giles Fraser, economist professor John Kay, psychologist, writer and broadcaster Claudia Hammond and surgeon, author and television presenter Miss Gabriel Weston. The discussion is chaired by professor Sarah Churchwell.
The panel is followed by a wine reception and launch party for the festival, from 19.30 onwards. Come and join us for the start of the UK’s biggest festival of the humanities. Explore the Carnival of Lost Emotions, print your own Being Human poster in a pop-up screen printing workshop, play a hackable musical instrument and take an ‘armchair tour’ of hidden spaces around Senate House.
Come and grab a drink and join us for a taster of Being Human activities across the country!
As our Festival events are free, not everyone who asks for tickets comes to our events. To make sure we have a full house we allocate more tickets than there are seats. We do our best to get the numbers right, but unfortunately we occasionally have to disappoint people. Admission is on a first come, first served basis, so please arrive in good time for the start of the event.
