Set in a mining town in the 1920s it follows the relationships between two sisters and two men. Directed by Ken Russell and starring Alan Bates, Oliver Reed, Glenda Jackson and Jennie Linden, the film was nominated for Academy Awards for Best Director and Best Writing and Glenda Jackson won for Best Actress.
