Jay Carver from Crossrail will be speaking about Crossrail's archaeology programme, highlighting some of the finds and discussing how the integrated Crossrail team have managed to stay on top of programme.
This lecture is co-organised with ICES (Chartered Institute of Civil Engineering Surveyors) as part of their CPD programme.
In 2010, Crossrail’s archaeology programme, after 3 years in the planning, started on site. The majority of the portals, shafts and station sites, together with utility diversions, posed a significant archaeology programme risk as the route crossed the entire history of the capital from early prehistory to the early modern period. Historic buildings, railway heritage, Roman and Medieval finds, London’s last great shipbuilder, and the environmental history of the Thames valley were all to play a part on revealing the layers of London.
