The Wandle flows from the North Downs above Carshalton to reach the Thames at Wandsworth. It has never really been much of a navigable river but it has had industry along it for centuries. It is said that in the 18th century there were some 68 waterwheels along its course providing power for various mills.
On this walk we explore the central section of the Wandle around Merton where the roman road from London to Chichester crossed the river. We will hear how this area developed and we will see what has survived.
We end the walk at Morden Hall Park, owned by the National Trust, where there is of course a tea room! And this is close to Morden tube.
