Prior to the City of London Sinfonia’s performance exploring the music of Georgian London through Haydn, Mozart, JC Bach and Handel, Professor Jerry White explores the striking similarities between London then and now, a city which drew the leading lights of 18th century music to its streets to find fame and fortune.
Professor Jerry White teaches London history at Birkbeck, University of London. His acclaimed trilogy on London, from the 18th to the 20th century, is an unparalleled narrative of the capital, and London in the Twentieth Century: A City and Its People won the Wolfson History Prize in 2001. His latest publication Zeppelin Nights: London in the First World War was published in May 2014 and won the Spear’s Social History Prize. He is currently writing a history of the Marshalsea Prison.
