From Pavement to Platform - The evolution of the London Underground Design Idiom
--
We wish to invite people into Studio Egret West’s new studio and showroom space to discuss the past, present and future of the world’s oldest underground train network, London’s biggest ‘work in progress’.
The installation for the London Festival of Architecture will celebrate the body of work Studio Egret West have been undertaking with London Underground to develop a design guide that re-asserts LU’s position at the forefront of design and innovation. The Idiom covers every aspect of station architecture and ambience, from pavement to platform.
A station “platform” as imagined by SEW is recreated in our large social and workshop space. Through film, conversations and events, we will explore the rich heritage and multilayered environment for travelling, meeting, working, showcasing and shopping that the London Underground offers, where it is now, and how it might transform in the future.
