Three 19th century artist travellers on the Nile

David Robert and John Frederick Lewis were among the earliest professional British artists to travel independently to Egypt and the Nile to exploit the high demand for images from a fascinated public. Their success prompted Edward Lear to follow, making his own contribution to the history of British artists in the Orient.
